about

Call it a comeback. Tulip Tiger’s sophomore release, Award Winning Redemption Arc, was written and produced as the electronic artist was grounded in his home country of America during the pandemic lockdown, after living abroad since 2016. Producer/composer Augustus Watkins employed a newly acquired car — a meticulously maintained 1993 Mercedes-Benz 400E — to mix the new material in just two weeks’ time, parked on the street outside his Hollywood sublease.

The collection of experimental electronic songs is characteristically Tulip Tiger: all vibrant melodies, crunchy textures, and playful mood. Watkins relied on the car’s subwoofers to carve out punchy drums and craft bottomless bass lines. Award Winning Redemption Arc expertly traces through The Prodigy-inspired big beat, sample-driven trip-hop, futuristic house, and nu-disco that might make Homem-Christo and Bangalter’s ears perk up.
